Excellent news for patients. After three years of development, Miamind®, the patient-specific neurostimulator for non-invasive brain stimulation, can now be prescribed to patients by neurologists and psychiatrists. The device has been officially registered with Swissmedic and the British regulatory authority.

The Miamind® Neurostimulator by Basel-based Bottneuro AG is custom-made based on MRI images - 3D printed - and allows for precise electrical stimulation of cortical brain regions. The number and position of electrodes, as well as various stimulation parameters, are individually defined by the treating medical staff. Subsequently, Bottneuro creates a computer-aided simulation to visually display the induced electric fields and enable a final determination of the parameters. After finalizing all parameters, Bottneuro manufactures the personalized Miamind® Neurostimulator and delivers it to the clinic within a few weeks. Thanks to the integrated EEG function of the Miamind® Neurostimulator, the effects of the therapy on brain activity can be directly measured without the need for a separate EEG measurement.

The device is now officially registered as a Custom Made Device according to Art. 10 of the Swiss Medical Devices Ordinance (MepV) with Swissmedic and with the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the UK. More countries will follow in 2024!

Initial applications will be in the area of psychiatry, stroke rehabilitation and severe depression. Bottneuro is currently developing a personalized alternating current therapy with the neurostimulator for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease and the underlying neuroinflammation.
